New Toys and Art Finds 2012 Edition

Postby starjoesryan » Thu Mar 22, 2012 12:44 am

This is a thread for you to pot any new toys you obtained for yourself or any new toy news you heard about that you think others might be interested to know.

This is also the place to showcase your art collection from creators or to display your own creativity that you made yourself.

This is definitely a place for a lot of fun to be had.

These little 3 and 4 inch Transformers Prime figures are great! $5.99 for Bumblebee and other 3 inch characters. $11.99 for Optimus, Megatron, etc. They have good molding and quality crisp plastic. Picked up Optimus. Gonna buy them all. Relatively cheap. 5.99 for a nice Bumblebee! And they don't take up much space.

I had to get my wife's tire fixed this morning at the mall (or Hell as I call it), so I walked around the stores a bit. TJ Maxx had a slew of Star Wars vintage packed figures for $4.99 a pop and several Clone Wars 3 packs with DVDs for $12.99 each. Seriously, if you live near a TJ Maxx or Ross, stop by once in a while, you'd be surprised at what they have.

Got a couple things today while at the surprisingly packed and busy Annapolis Comic Con. First was meeting John Ostrander and getting him to sign one of my Star Wars Legacy trades as well as babble on about Dawn of the Jedi. Man was he pumped about what's coming up for it after the fist 5 issue series. Then I got some art from JK Woodward who I think is doing the covers for the Dr. Who/Star Trek crossover series as well as the art for Cobra 2 I believe. It's Vader on the bridge of the Enterprise and he said it was done as a promotional thing to see if they could get Lucas to do a crossover series. He also had a piece that was Kirk in Carbonite. The other piece I got was a sketch from Matt Slay who did the cover for the Leonardo 1 shot coming up for the Turtles. He had the original piece there but had already sold it for a crazy amount online. Had a good talk with him about turtles and Michael Bay and Conan since he's a big Conan fan.

Since I am the suck in regards to dealing with anything photo like, I'll just post the 2 pieces on the Star Joes Facebook page.

I got all of the new Joe figures that I ordered online. I cant believe how great the lifeline, zombie viper and law and order figure are. I didnt like renegades but the tunnel rat figure was pretty good. It came with a ton of accessories.

My friend and I talked to Ostrander for like 30 minutes. I mostly just listened cause I don't know what the hell to say to people with any sort of fame. I must say it was pretty cool to just hear the passion he has for what he's doing in his voice. To try to quote him correctly, "You guys are more hard core them most when it comes to star wars fans, how could you or anyone else not want to know how the Jedi came about?" He was referring to the fact that he knew we were both 501st since my friend had his garrison shirt on and gave him one of his trading cards. Just thinking about that talk makes me that much more excited about what's coming up. I can't wait.

I wish I had known Matt Slay was a Joe fan, I would have asked him to do a second drawing for me. We chatted about Turtles and Conan and how I got an extra detailed sketch cause I was the first person of the day to ask him to do one. Turns out his soon to be wife is working on getting her Mandolorian costume together to join the Mando Mercs. I asked him if he'd be at Baltimore but he wasn't sure yet. He thought the con was going on like the week of his wedding but I told him it's actually in september, so I hope he shows up there. I'd love to chat with him again. I also can't stress how simple but bad ass the cover to the Leo 1-shot looks in person. I wish I could have bought that original from him :(

When I go to the star joes faceybook page I see them right at the top of the wall. I'm guessing it was Ryan that commented via the star joes name on them.

Where is the VA Con? I seriously might go to it now just to have Matt do a Joe sketch for me. His art blew me away.

EDIT: Oh, it's in Salem. That's way to far a drive. Could I possibly paypal you some money and beg you to ask him to do a sketch of Dusty for me? I would love you in a straight, manly way for at least a couple years before I get bored and my eyes start to wander :)

Yesterday at Target I picked up the Renegades Tunnel Rat figure. They were on sale for $7.99 not a bad price.

Picked up this Destro from Matt Slay at VA Comicon today:

I actually got these some time ago, but was waiting on them to be delivered, picked these up from Brian Shearer who was the inker:

RAH 173 pg. 9

RAH 173 pg. 5 (especially happy to have gotten this one)

Picked up a slew of dollar and 50 cent books, too. Good times indeed.
