I wonder how I lost track of the Bumper Girl "hope you survive the experience" part of the no longer new way we open the show? I need to remedy that!

Episode 65

There's more debate about Weapon X #1 because Logan sliced off a robber's arm (who threatened to kill him). Brian said there was no reason to do that, while Rob defends it.

Brian: He's committing assault and he's an Avenger.
Rob: The Avengers commit assault against their own wives!

In On Shelves Now, it's mostly positive on both sides. Probably the most combined buys.
Rob - 5 buys, 1 pass, 1 borrow
Brian - 4 buys, 3 borrows

In X-Factor #35, both are done with the Summers Rebellion. Rob still thinks the Madrox-Layla thing is creepy. Brian has no problem with it.

In Legacy #224, they appreciate Rogue getting her powers fixed, allowing her to move forward.

Rob love the political nature of Uncanny #509. (Prop bill is talked about/fought that prevents mutant breeding)

In Retro Reviews, it's interesting that Wolverine attempts to prevent Rachel Summers from killing Selene, being better than that because they're heroes. If you were to look at Wolverine today, there seems to be a stark contrast.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Episode 66

Interview with Matt Fraction.

Also, Rob has finally started reading some Dark Reign stuff.
If we're not one, but two, are we evil or good? Do we walk the fine line that we'd cross if we could?

Episode 67

The episode actually starts with episode 12, and then our hosts talking about going to "reprints". They sounded so subdued back then.

Brian in reference to the older podcasts: "Some people are actually going back and listening to that shit."

They mention that Mutant Massacre is up next, and joke that the end of the show is coming soon. (I may not have noted it before, but they semi-joked early on in the podcast's history about ending the show when they hit this storyline)

It's pointed out to Brian that Wolverine's views on killing changed in issue 50 of his solo series. Brian appreciates that there's an in-story explanation, but think that takes away what made Wolverine great.

Brian: "If you have a Superman character that can do anything... if you take Superman and have him wipe out half the world, and make him a mass murderer-"
Rob: "I would buy that book in a second."
Brian: "There's no story there!"

(That conversation reminds me of Irredeemable)

Rob thinks New Mutants #2 is as relevant as X-Men: First Class. Brian defends it. Rob feels we've seen the Legion stuff before.

They called passes "sells" in this one. (In the next podcast they reference that mistake)

With X-Factor #44, Rob feel it's just the same stuff and nothing has changed. Brian feels things are being developed in this book, but it's still "meh".

Both put X-Men Forever #1 as a borrow with neither thinking it was great. Brian will stick with it for awhile.

Brian: "If [Claremont]does some sort of shock value thing like kill Wolverine, it's gonna lose me."

Brian: "My feeling is that this book isn't going to last more than a year."

We get "Ask the X-Men", with "Stan Lee". He sounds a lot like Roger, the Stan Lee Experience. (At least with the tales he tells)

question asked: "Mr. Lee, I'm thinking of making a complete switch over to DCBS-"
"Stan Lee": "DC! That brand is shit! They stole every idea I ever had!"

"Stan Lee": "Back in the day I hired Kirby and Ditko to paint the side of my mansion, because they were struggling for money because I had taken all of it. And I definitely thought about kicking out the ladder, and solving at least ten of my problems."

Rob notes how often things in Retros coincide with what's going on in On Shelves Now, Like Legion in New Mutants and Selene. Brian mentions it being "cyclical".

How many of these are you listening to a day!?!?!

Note: I swear I mentioned this at some point, but my Stan Lee is a direct rip-off of Roger, the Stan Lee Experience. I always did the voice at home after seeing that, and then shamelessly implemented into the show.

Episode 68

Brian thinks Storm belongs with the X-Men.

In X-Factor #45, as a positive, Rob thinks Peter David's going to de-age Layla and cause Madrox some turmoil. Other than that he hates this comic. They also covered the Rictor-Shatterstar controversy. (This is one of the things I remember hearing on this podcast years ago). The consensus is that hte kiss was used explicitly for shock value.

They also cover the Peter David-Rob Liefeld back-and-forth. Rob defends David, Brian believes some of Rob's comments were taken out of context, but he was still being ridiculous.

With X-Men Forever #2, Rob borrowed it and Brian passed it. With Wolverine killed, Rob feels he will be back. Brian disagrees.

Brian: "You think this is going to be around long enough for him to come back?"
Rob: "If this book's still around by Christmas, I'm gonna shit a brick. I will be amazed."

The liked the Cable-X-Force crossover, but the problem with it is that it left the characters where they started.

Rob thinks it would be a ballsy move on Marvel's part if Bishop was right about the baby.

Brian feels if they were going to (probably) save Boom-Boom, they should have just killed off a bigger character, like Nightcrawler.

In Uncanny #512, they both surprisingly enjoyed the X-Club issue, and Doctor Nemesis as a character. Rob especially says he is coming around on these characters.

They both liked X-Men/Dark Avengers: Utopia #1. They are surprised it was killed on the forums. The hosts thought it was a good opening issue wit ha good story, characters, and good art by Silvestri. Brian said, "What more do you want?"

Brian thinks Emma's undercover. Rob thinks Jean is coming back at the end of this.

In the Retros, they feel Mojo's plot (Bionic eyes in Psylocke so that all the action can be seen and broadcast by Mojo) sounded a bit like reality tv. Rob thinks the comic was ahead of its time.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Episode 69

They discuss the X-Men panel from the San Diego Comic Con. Brian notices the similarities between Blackest Night and Necrosha.

Brian is worried Cypher is going to be a techno-organic beast. Rob thinks Cypher will receive a power-upgrade.

Rob (regarding X-Factor): "Every pedophile in America just wrote down join mutant noir agency."

Brian: "Let's put this to bed-"
Rob: "With Layla and Jamie."

Astonishing #30 was awful. Rob says that Forge isn't dead.

Cable #16 is more of the same, and both feel it isn't going anywhere. They do like Hope as a character, though.

In New Mutants #3, Rob finally thinks it's okay, but worries Cannonball has lost some of his maturity.

They actually like X-Men Forever #3 with evil Storm, listing it as a buy. Rob thinks the art is fantastic.

They are liking the Utopia crossover thus far. Rob finds Norman Osborn fascinating, and likes watching him interact with other characters.

In "top 5 shock endings coming to X-Factor this year", Brian predicts a Wolfsbane-Rictor-Shatterstar love triangle.

They decide to cut down the Retro Reviews to no more than four an episode.

This is the start of the Mutant Massacre. Rob says this is the first time he's actually worried about some of these characters, including Wolverine!

Still listening and writing notes, but have to say that a lot of this stuff is familiar to me. Last time, I definitely remembered the Michael Jackson top 5, and this time, I remember certain things, like the shitty comic book store experience.

This is both semi-nostalgic and exciting, and look forward to raring through more episodes.

Episode 70

Rob: "I want an A-list black character. Name someone that's not the Black Panther."
Brian: "Storm."
Rob: "Yeah, I forgot about her... but they're drawing her white, anyway!"

Rob disliked Weapon X #3 because it was so far removed from dealing with his origin, while Brian likes it for that reason. Rob now finds the book to be irrelevant. The hosts seem to flip flop on each issue, something Rob noted in a later podcast.

Rob read Dark Wolverine on his own, and said it was fantastic. Brian hits on something about Daken that I agree with: How can he be so worldly and yet be so misguided about his father?

Brian has a shitty comic shop experience. This same store also marked X-Force #1 as $25, X-Force #2 as $15, and the rest at $10.

In X-Factor #36, Rob thinks Ruby Summers is coming back to the present with Madrox.

They decide to dump Weapon X in exchange for Dark Wolverine.

They mention Flick Chart, which I started today.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Episode 71

Rob started his college job.

They discuss the Walking Dead comic coming to AMC. Rob wonders the same thing I did when I heard the news: "When did AMC start making good shows?"

Rob gives the news of a S.W.O.R.D. comic six issues.

Rob says no one's reading or cares about Marvel Cosmic stuff. Brian disagrees. I remember hearing this years ago and being irked. Now, I just laugh, as I know exactly how Rob is, and how hes prone to blanketing statements and hyperbole, and love him for it!

They discuss the Peter David-Orson Scott Card team-up. Brian: "We wouldn't have a show if it weren't for Peter David. He gives us so much to talk about."

They tried Dark Wolverine #75-76. They think it's okay. Both feel it's better than most Wolverine titles. Rob strongly feels that Daken is going to get his comeuppance at the end Dark Reign. Brian opposes him, and bets that Osborn will have the upper hand.

InCable #17, Brian thinks it's more interesting with Hope as a teenager, and feels she's a fleshed-out character. Rob doesn't hate it.

They still like X-Men Forever (#5). They love the art and feel Claremont has a good grasps on the characters.

They enjoy Uncanny #213, and noticed the lack of reaction from Cyclops regarding Emma's betrayal. This fuels Brian's theory that she's a mole.

We get X-Men Password, with CGS' Peter Rios vs colorist Brian Reber.

In the Retros, Mutant Massacre didn't end the way Rob expected. He compared it to Empire Strikes Back.

Rob thought Ex-President Abraham Lincoln was going to be a horseman of Apocalypse.

They interviewed the comic shop Fallout Shelter at the end. I'm not sure why. I guess they were curious about the goings on in a shop?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Episode 72

Peter David actually left a message.

They X-Force #18.

Brian: "There's no grave show more in X-Men comics than Doug Ramsey's."

Brian thinks Ramsey will have a lame techno-organic-based power-up. He wants to see a writer take Doug Ramsey's power to the next level, such as reading an opponent he's fighting. Rob agrees that it would be cool.

In Dark Avengers #8, Rob thinks it's fun, but hopes there's something deeper beyond the obvious telegraphing of Emma being a double agent.

Rob's still not a fan of New Mutants (#4). He feels the characters are just cardboard cutouts of themselves. Brian disagrees. Rob feels the book is irrelevant, and ordinary. Brian agrees the that the first arc was a bit ordinary, but thinks that Rob is biased against the book.

They both hated X-Factor #47, with the Summers Rebellion and everything.

We had an Inside the Mansion with Cypher.

Brian says that Doug is going to have to be aged up when he returns.
