Cultural Wormhole Presents: X-Nation Episode 65

Postby PSB » Thu May 17, 2012 6:44 pm

In this episode of X-Nation, Antony, Elizabeth, and Paul finally get back to the business of their Days of X-Men Past retro reviews. Such highlights include the debut of the Emma Frost flashback series, Northstar being a jerk to his students, Polaris going crazy, and the start of Grant Morrison's final third arc of issues in New X-Men.

Here's the details for the Emma Frost cover with the playing cards. No Gambit, not river boat heist.

SPOILERS

Details on whole run. No Gambit or river boat heist. Sorry Elizabeth

Higher Learning: Issue 1-6
Here we are introduced to Emma Frost before her Telepathic powers manifest. Within this arc we see Emma's relationship with her family and how dysfunctional it really is, leading to her making quite a drastic decision

Mind Games: Issue 7-12
This arc mainly deals with the repercussions of Emma's choice in the first arc and how someone struggling to keep everything together and stable deals with the added stress that comes along with being kidnapped by the Boston mob and held to ransom.

Bloom: Issue 13-18
The third and final arc in Emma's solo series shows Emma in College and introduces Emma's first mentor who can understand what it is she is going through, Astrid Bloom. This arc also ties up some loose ends but not all. We also get to see where and how it is Emma adopted the elitist behaviour we see today.

And when going through the list of all of Gambit's appearances he never shows up in Emma Frost.

Well, I guess we don't have to read Emma Frost for the show anymore now that some one has spoiled the entire series and robbed us of what little joy we could have taken from it.

Ignore my Gummi Bears comment because I now realize it's a reference from eleven episodes ago. You know what's funny? I downloaded the episode to my iPod via iTunes. Although it says Episode 65, the audio is from episode 54. I listened to about 90% of the episode before I realized how familiar it all sounded. I'm not sure if there's a problem with the iTunes feed or if it's a problem with my iPod. The good news is, I laughed at all your jokes twice.

Looking forward to the new show! Is it horrible that I enjoy reading this old garbage more than the new garbage?

Three drunks play Axis & Allies and foolishly record it

i think we'll all sleep better after the dust has cleared and we're back to reading stories about neat people who are hated and feared. ...we Will someday get back to that right? i mean, isn't that what the x-men are all about?

Out of interest... do you guys already own these books you're reading? I want to join in but am not sure how best to hunt down the titles. Singles, trades... I dunno. :(

I own everything we've discussed, but Emma Frost. It's available in trade.

I'll give Mile High Comics a quick scan, or maybe CCL. Otherwise I'll go for the trades! I prefer single issues though. :)
