FFG fit Club

Postby Nuggie99 » Mon Jul 19, 2010 1:36 pm

I gotta lose some weight (and when I say some, I mean lots). Who's with me?

So, I'm using SparkPeople website/iphone app this time around. I've seen several of you using the Loseit app on your iphone.

Another website I use is dwlz.com The site looks like it was built in 1997, but the information is good. The big draw here is all the Chain Restaurant data in one place.

So. look here for words of encouragement, tracking if you want, exercise ideas.

Whatcha got?

I used to be 235 lbs (I'm 6' 2"). When I didn't recognize myself in a photo, I knew I had to do something.

I lost 60 pounds through Weight Watchers, and have mostly kept it off, but in the last few years I've tried moving on to something more health focused, and I am slowly moving back to being overweight

I use the "LoseIt" app on my iPod Touch for calorie counting, I use Midwestheart's for which foods I should eat, and I'm going to use Couch to 5K app, iFitness app, Yourself Fitness (on Xbox) and 100 Pushups app for my exercise. I'm also imitating Brad, and trying to avoid sugar.

I've gone through a lot of ups and downs lately, so here's hoping it sticks this time.

I'm in the same boat. I'm a little dude(5ft4in) and I'm way overweight for my height( I need to lose 60 pounds to be on the high side of normal), and its all because of the ease of fast food for lunch at work, which is a desk job and too many suds on the weekends. 30 years old, prediabetic, shockingly bad cholesterol, high triglycerides, ughhh. I don't even care about being overweight, but the other shit that goes along with it, scary. I'm game, start today boys, let's make some magic happen through good diet choices and some exercise. If you are comitted enough and seriously need to drop weight really quickly, you can rock one of the HMR liquid diet plans, it is ridiculous, but it does work(my sister and brother in law lost a substantial amount of weight in a short time), but its not for the faint of heart.

Update:

A little more detail into what I'm doing:

LoseIt has me set to lose 2 pounds a week with 1600 calories a day.

According to the site I mentioned earlier, the foods I need to eat are:

2 servings of fruit.
2 servings of veggies.
3 servings of dairy.
5 servings of grain (half whole grains)
5 servings of meat/beans/nuts.

I know I need to step up the veggies in the future, but this is a good start. I find when I stick to this, I have about 150-200 calories left for goodies. I've heard you should make only 10% of your daily caloric intake junk food/processed food, so that's about right for me.

Last week I did well except for two nights I binged on potato chips and ice cream. By binge I mean I didn't measure them when I ate them. I still lost 2 pounds, so doing well so far! I've learned if I get too tired, I mistaken tiredness for hunger, and eat a lot because the feeling never goes away after I eat. I've also learned I eat for taste, not because I'm hungry.

Exercise will start next week. Going to start with "Couch to 5K" 3 times a week.

My goal is to get to 170 lbs. I was 190 last week.

I cut 95% of my sugar intake a few months back. I weighed around 215 lbs.

I'm down to 195 now. I haven't weighed this little in over 15 years.

My wife and I did Weight Watchers together. I went from 237lbs to 170lbs in one year. I put 10lbs back on since I stopped smoking though. WW is a pretty good program because it teaches you how to eat. Portion control is the key.

Today was the last day for fast food. I already cut out all sugars, soda, butter, sour cream, and whole milk. Next to cut out is the beer. I did this a few years back and lost around 30 lbs. now I gained it all back when I stopped. Well, good luck to you all.

I tried atkins once, did it by the book for 6 weeks, absolutely perfectly, did not lose 1 Pound. The effect that would have on my cholesterol right now would probably kill me. Yeah, the portion control and some daily activity is huge. I lost about 20 pounds at the end of last year, but couldn't manage to keep it down. No Fast food, low alcohol intake, smaller portions and good hour long work outs 3-5 days a week were how I did it. When you hit adulthood and have an idea of what food and lifestyle does to your body, its pretty easy to understand what you need to do to stay relatively healthy, its just gearing yourself up to do it consistently. I'm adopted and have no idea what is in my background, which is why I really need to be more careful. Kudos to all you guys for giving it your best. The biggest thing really is, do not get discouraged, and don't even start to weigh yourself for a few weeks.
