Big One Comic Podcast : Daredevil Vol 3 (Marvel)

Postby Crazy Clees » Sun Aug 26, 2012 7:49 pm

Three hosts enter, only two come out! This week the team is back together to review Daredevil vol 3 by Mark Waid. The first 6 issue story arc sees the return of Matt Murdock to NYC, a visit from Captain America, and some of the best art we've come across. Ryan does the entire episode "blind". Alex is a grumpy face. Andy fights a never ending battle with his mic.

Also in this ep, we get the return of Ask Doomsy/Grundy. We debate the name of our podcast. Plus we bring the sexy back (possibly)! Join us for this exciting episode. DO IT!

Alex's comic can be purchased here

Nice! My favorite character! But if you are going to do a "big one", like Andy said, I would love to hear born again, or the elektra saga.

I'm still trying to recover from Ben Affleck playing Matt Murdock.

Can't disagree with this not being a "big one"...but in any case, what happened to Volume 1 and Volume 2?

I think if it is notable or generating a buzz it's considered a "Big One", maybe it's a fleeting 15 minutes of fame but it's still a fact. Best thing is to jump on those while they are hot, rather then wait 2 years & say well in 2012 this was "Hot".

What ever you decide I'll listen.

So, this only got "big" with Volume 3? Volume 1 and Volume 2 are only "small" or "medium".

Seriously...were Volume 1 and 2 just as good or did the series start to get good/great with these issues?

I never read 1 or 2. I cannot comment on how good they are. Many people may argue (as Andrew did) that other DD stories may have been better. I didnt read em. I suggested this storyline because I read it. That is how the show works. At least one of us reads an arc or storyline and suggests it. If someone had suggested vol 1 or 2 first, we might have done that.

And the argument that DD only got "big" with vol 3 is not true. That would be like saying X-Men only got big with the Dark Phoenix Sage (the story we did). The history of a a series usually cannot be summed up in one episode. This was one of many "big" arcs for DD.

With 40ish eps, there will always be ones people might not like or think are as big as others in the history of the world, but it is also to help expand all of our comic horizons. We have already done a bunch of stories I never would have read otherwise. And with hopefully many, many more eps, we can hit more and more topics. And yes, some might not appeal to everyone. The good news is there are lots of other eps to try out.

Really I was just asking if you guys recommended starting with Volume 1 or starting with Volume 3 (just joking about the "not big one" stuff as usual...so relax).

It's the name of the series I believe. Vol 1. Was the series that started in the 60s. Vol 2 is the relaunch in the early 2000s that had Kevin smith, then bendis, then brubaker. Vol 3. Is the mark waid relaunch. It's basically the amount of times it has been renumbered.

OK..I finally figured this out.

"Daredevil Volume 3" refers to the new Mark Waid run which started in July 2011.

On Amazon (or wherever), you can order Mark Waid's Volume 1 and Volume 2 (Volume 3 is on the way). These compile the "Daredevil Volume 3" monthly books so far.

Obviously I had assumed that your reference to "Volume 3" was the printed "Volume 3" not the "Daredevil Volume 3" if that makes sense.

You probably mentioned that in the podcast and I missed it, or ignored it.

I'll go ignore myself now.

Agreed, very confusing. Issues 1-6 or the first vol 1 trade of the Mark Waid Vol 3 of Daredevil. Confused yet?

I got to thinking about it - and I think it might be the vol 1 trade of Daredevil vol 4

Good show guys.

Now I don't know if this Daredevil storyline is a big one but I guess a notable writer change would fit under the notable category.

Ryan - Make sure to thank Grundy for answering my questions.

The Bird Questions was for Doomsy but he had to kill that New York guy so maybe next time he can get to it. :)
