Well maybe this way we can get the amazing director Ben Affleck to direct Justice League. So we'll have to sit through the terrible actor Ben Affleck to get it.

This is akin to the George Clooney Batman. Snyder's Man of Steel didn't impress me. I have little faith in Man of Steel 2. Ben Affleck as an actor bores me to tears. Although, like Robot_Chicken said, Ben Affleck the director does have some potential.

...What.

Okay. Well. ...He was alright in Daredevil. Did a pretty decent job considering some of the clunker lines he was given. With the right script, shaped up a bit more...he could pull it off. Not exactly seeing it right now, but I'm willing to wait and see how they're approaching it.

Also, since he was mentioned, I gotta say--George Clooney, at the time Batman & Robin was made, could have done a good job with the role. He was well known in his ER role to pull off the suave Bruce Wayne stuff, and movies like From Dusk 'Till Dawn showed off he had the badass chops. The problem was that while the script did actually give him some interesting stuff as Bruce Wayne, the writing and direction with the Batman stuff never really worked right.

The problem with Batman & Robin isn't necessarily the camp--the '66 show is still a classic and well-regarded--the problem was the half-assed script and an executive decision to try to use the movie to sell as much toys as possible.

To be fair, Michael Keaton and Val Kilmer were fairly big names too when they got onto the role and they did alright with what they had, especially Keaton.

One thing I just noticed:

"Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman,” added Snyder in the announcement. “He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him.”

Anyone else feel like old farts when you think about the fact that they're getting Ben Affleck for the grizzled old veteran role?

Personally I loved Man of Steel. The action sequences were good, but to be expected, what I loved was Cavill's performance as Clark/Superman, the world-building they did for Krypton, Amy Adams as Lois, and what's-his-face pretty much did the best General Zod ever. And the SOUNDTRACK. Holy shit, I love that soundtrack. To me, Man of Steel is definitely the best film adaptation the character has EVER had.

Now...the fact that a big focus of this sequel is Batman is a little worrisome. I hope that a big factor of the sequel is Superman dealing with the consequences of his fight with Zod. I mean, he snapped a dude's neck--and no matter how necessary it was, it should haunt him.

Is this really a sequel? This is a justice league prequel to me.
I think the gif from cibawag is absolutely on the nose. I'm not appalled or angry, I just don't see it. As always though, I will approach the film with an open mind.

I want to keep an open mind too, but Newsarama is steady dick rydin' today.

Let's be sure to remember that Heath Ledger surprised us as all as the Joker, when Christopher Nolan was in charge, and then we can just assume that because of that, we will always be eating our words when Warner brother makes questionable casting decisions.

I was thinking that with Heath Ledger too--not saying that I think Affleck is going to be THAT good, but I do think it is something to bear in mind when one thinks, "How the fuck could that work?" Maybe they will surprise us.

To be honest, Snyder is 0 for 4 with me. So, I'm not so much concerned with Affleck as I am with the director. I'm probably judging the casting choice too harshly because I'm just not a fan of Snyder's general vision. I'll keep an open mind, but I don't have high hopes.

I liked 300--it was a really solid adaptation of Miller's work.

Watchmen...I think it was about as good as any straight adaptation of the book on film could possibly be. It just doesn't quite fit for a movie adaptation. I always felt it would have worked better as a twelve-part mini-series on HBO or something.

Sucker Punch...there was a lot of cool action sequences, but the plot and themes were kind of a tangled mess. I feel like it would have worked better if a stronger/more professional writer had cleaned up his initial plot. But hell, the fact that it's a semi-original work in a sea of remakes, sequels or adaptations alone makes me like it a little bit, even if it doesn't really quite know what the fuck it's about.

And I already said my piece about Man of Steel.

So really, I'm about 3 for 4 with Snyder.

There was fuss over Heath Ledger? Honestly dont remember any of that... (no sarcasm).

Suckerpunch was irredeemable dkj. One of the worst movies ever made. However, ive not minded snyders other work.

I did watch the animated Dark Knight Returns part 2 last night which was brilliant

Fuck! Can't believe I forgot about DOTD either. That was a solid flick too. Any movie that has a lounge version of Down With the Sickness is pretty much awesome in my book.

I do seem to recall hearing there's like a big director's cut of Sucker Punch or something like that. Just how exactly was it butchered?
