Finished the show a few days ago - definitely going to bust out the Marvel Minis from the 80s now...

First up: FF Talk
Whataburger does indeed rule. Steak n' Shake ain't too shabby, either.
They just opened a few In n' Out Burgers here (Dallas) in the last week or so - there are literally people waiting hours in line. I'll stick with Whataburger.
No food on Earth is worth a four hour wait, unless there actually IS a Zombie Apocalypse and it takes you four hours to find something edible.
Although, the Heart Attack Grill just opened here too - and has a certain 'Food Porn' aspect I find fascinating.

Chik Fil A is the king of the yardbird, hands down. Grandy's is also a favorite - sometimes you just need a goddamn Chicken Fried Steak in a big fucking hurry.

Next topic: Dumb Ass Talk
While I am familiar with the 'Yankee Retard' - I am afraid he is woefully outnumbered and outgunned by the 'Big Southern Dummy.'
It's just a fact of life - the BSD is not only high in numbers, but bold in attitude.
Bill Hicks famously quoted a female BSD: 'Whatchoo readin' for?' as if 'readin' was analogous to going to the dentist or lifting something heavy.

Speaking of readin':
Hercules was kickass - the Recorder as straight man - brilliant!
As were most of the Marvel Minis back in the day - will have to revisit that Jack of Hearts.

70s Marvel TV:
Being 10 years old and having Spider-Man and the Hulk on TV was fucking AWESOME - regardless of quality (actually, the pilot for ASM is really fucking good - the rest is for nostalgia purposes only)
I also remember the Hulk episode where he fights the 'First Hulk' being particularly badass when I was young. Bill Bixby was greatness.
The Hulk movies were totally fun revisits of the series but with the whack-a-doo versions of Marvel heroes - the Daredevil was good - Thor was so over the top!
The Captain America movies were total WTF material - but I love them just the same.
Dr. Strange had potential - and fairly decent effects for what it was.
I have all of them, and bust them out periodically to relive that 70s vibe - they go nicely with a chunky run of 70s Marvel books to read while they roll in the background.

I also LOVE the old school Marvel cartoons - all of 'em!
The 60s Spidey is the shit! From the 2 per show early run to the Bakshi acid trip 3rd season (I am watching 'Specialists and Slaves' right now - holy balls!)
The Hanna Barbera Fantastic Four show is one that doesn't get mentioned enough - it's basically the first 3 years of FF animated - minus the Sub Mariner who had his rights tied up in a nearly made TV series.
The Marvel Superheroes Show - hell, that WAS the comics animated. Barely. But fucking awesome! Kirby, Heck and Colan - on the fucking TV? Yes, please.

I am considering doing the same thing for EDD. Although it looks like no one really cares that much about my show judging from the download counts of the latest ep...

I am the co-host of the TWO TRUE FREAKS PODCAST . I have been alternately described as a "hellish jumble of mismanaged parts" and a "humble God".

I have been to Great Escape with Adama one time when my wife and I were visting him when he lived near Atlanta. Nice shop, pretty decent prices, and a nice environment in general.

Regarding FCBD, I am going to C&P from my blog:

"As is the tradition, I swung by Borderlands in Greenville, SC this past Saturday for Free Comic Book Day! Borderlands was my LCS for a long time, starting in 2006 when I moved to the Upstate, until it got to the point where money was tight and I had to switch to a mail order service. Earlier this year, the longtime owner sold the shop, and in the few times I have been there since some changes have been evident. New bookshelves, new layout, a reading couch. That sort of thing. So I was not prepared for the huge change in the handling of FCBD.

Stan never seemed to make a big deal out of FCBD. The freebies were up front, and there was a sale. Pretty straightforward.

I knew things were different this year as I got to the light on Laurens Rd and there was a giant inflated ape standing in front of the shop.

Ooooh boy.

I have never seen the shop this packed with people. Just people everywhere. Even the Big Annual Sale doesn't draw crowds like this. A line snaked around and through the store and out the front door just to get the free comics. (Of course, it snaked past the new comics racks and the trade shelves, natch.) In the shadow of the ape outside, there was about a half dozen local artists doing sketches and signings, with an appropriately large crowd as well. Strangest of all was the Mjolnir cake in front of the register, although considering the cakes at the BAS this year I shouldn't be surprised.

Needless to say it was pretty insane. What I expected to be a 10 minute stop turning into an hour-plus of waiting on line to discover that they barely had a third of the free comics even available. Hrrn.

I will say this though, my crotchetiness not withstanding: there were a lot of kids there. I mean a lot of them. A mother in line behind me asked how the free comics worked (my response: "Well, they're comics which are free.") and said that her boys loved comics. Judging from the kids running around with various comics and collections in their hands it seems like that sentiment might have been widespread, and that at least is good. "

The Frank Tieri Hercules miniseries is awesome. Tieri had a knock on him for a long time that he was a guy who only did jokey stuff, so early on this was thought to be just another jokey Hercules series. I had been talking a little bit with Tieri online and reading different interviews with him, and he kept saying that he kept going back to the Hercules myth. I don't think anyone saw the swerve coming. I know I sure didn't!

I was telling Chris the other day that the Ty Stone character who is the TV executive is actually an Iron Man villian from Tieri's tenure on that book. The joke which Iron Man makes about "mind control television" is a direct reference to that storyline, as Ty Stone had developed an addictive immersive TV experience called Dreamvision which he used to control people's minds! :)

Anybody remember our "Versus!" podcast? http://www.versus.libsyn.com/

I'm thinking we should resurrect this idea as a CMM segment. Thoughts?

No, I would most likely skip that segment if it was on the show.
