Big One Comic Podcast : Big One's Little Ones

Postby Crazy Clees » Mon Jun 06, 2011 7:16 am

In our twelfth episode, our hosts do something differed. Instead of reviewing one event, we review 6! We take a couple single issues and a few small trades and review all six! We hit Serenity, Chewbacca, Batman/Superman annual, Batman by Gaslight, Wolverine #100, and Batman v Judge Dreadd. Find out which ones we liked, which ones we disagreed about, and which ones gave us blue balls. Pariah stops by with a poem as well.

Sounds to me that you liked Serenity the best due to all the good memories that it brought back. You guys talking about it made me want to see them again so I watched Firefly on Netflix. Also I agree that Kaylee is darn hot.

I do think a lot of the Serenity story was nostalgia, but that was good of the book to elicit those kinds of memories. Was written well

Batman: Gotham by Gaslight I really like--I mean, Victorian Batman facing off against Jack the Ripper? How the hell could it NOT be awesome?

Wait--the art of Hellboy...doesn't fit Hellboy? That is...really weird, dude. The fact that you hate Mignolia...we can never be friends because of this. Never. ...Just kidding. Sorta. :P

BTW, here's a photo of Sigmund Freud:

The sequel for it, "Masters of the Future," which is in my copy of the Gaslight trade, is pretty good too--kinda disappointing in that Mignola doesn't do that one, but Eduardo Barreto does a good job, and it's a really fun, kinda remake of a past golden age story involving Batman stopping a villain with a super-powerful zeppelin that is going to destroy Gotham.

Never read the Chewbaca one--or any of Star Wars stuff outside of the two trilogies. I just never got into the expanded universe. But, you know what this sounds like to me? A few years back, after Siege came out where the Sentry died, there was this one shot that was about his funeral, and it was basically about making Sentry a glorified saint, messing up a lot of characters in the process--the biggest one probably being that he was the first person that Rogue ever slept with. It really made Sentry feel like a strange, twisted Mary Sue--to the point where I wouldn't have been surprised if at one point it's shown that before he died, Sentry cured Daredevil's blindness like he was the Son of Man himself.

I haven't read this annual, but Superman/Batman Annual #1? AWESOME. It's sort-of a remake of an old silver-age comic of how Superman and Batman discovered each other's secret identity, and it also features Lois Lane, Deathstroke the Terminator, and each other's Earth Two counterparts--Owlman, Ultraman, Superwoman...and Deadpool.

Okay, now you say Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker is bad? Okay, now we DEFINITELY can't be friends.

I don't remember seeing Luthor, but Superman was in the Beyond cartoon in the two-parter "The Call." It has a LOT to do with his exile, as I've heard.

Serenity: Those Left Behind is pretty damn good. :D

I think Inara's probably the hottest, with Zoe second.
